Code Of Conduct

The Vancouver Weight Loss Surgery Support group is a safe space facilitated by a trained group facilitator. At the beginning of every session each member will be expected to sign and adopt the following code of conduct. If you have any questions about this code, please contact us before attending a meeting and we’ll be happy to go over your concerns.

I agree that I will abide by the following code of conduct adopted by the Vancouver Weight Loss Support Group.

1.) I understand that confidentiality is an important aspect of therapeutic group dynamics. I will not reveal the names or circumstances of anyone in this group to anyone outside of this group. What happens in a meeting stays in the meeting.

2.) I will treat my fellow group members with compassion. I understand that we are all in different stages of weight loss surgery and experience different struggles. I acknowledge that just by being here we are doing our very best to grow and learn. Anger, rudeness or criticism from other group members is not helpful to anyone’s journey.

3.) I agree to treat my fellow group members with respect. I understand that some members in the group may have different belief systems and values from my own. I do not have to agree with everyone, but I will respect their right to run their life as they see fit, just as I am free to do the same.

4.) I take full responsibility for my own emotional health and well-being. I understand that even if I feel provoked by a topic, or another group member, I am ultimately responsible for my own emotions and for my actions. I understand that the facilitator is open to hearing about any concerns I have.

5.) I understand that should I fail to adhere to this code of conduct I may be asked to leave the group.
